His True Guide and Saaik

Saaik سايق ['अरबी' - विशेषण صفة] =अन्धे को पीछे से सहारा दे कर आगे बढ़ाने वाला। One who propels the 'blind' from behind.

Shri Laalaa Ji had started writing his ‘Autobiography’ in the Editorial [titled - ‘Zameema’  ضمیمہ] of a ‘Periodical’, in Urdu, named ‘Farrukh’ [فررخ], he himself being the Editor. There, he starts –

میرے مالک اور ہاتھ پکڑنے والے کی الا ہمّتی ، بلند هونسلاگی اور فطری شفقت [سوابھویک پریم] لگاتار ہر حالت میں اس طرف مصروف اور متواججہ [اہکارشیت] رہی ہے کی بلا لحاظ فرقہ اور مذاہب فیضانے الہی کی بارش [آمریت کی ورشا] متنففس پر فرماتے رہے .انکی ہر اندر آنے والی سانس لوگوں کے دلوں کی سیاہی [کلما] کو سونٹ کر بہار فنک دینے والی تھے او ہر بہار جانے والی سانس آمریت کی دھار کو دل، دماگ اور راگو - پاتھوں مے بھر دینے والی ، وہ جسم مے رہ کر اپنا کام کر گئے . اور اب آزاد ہو کر اسی کام میں سرگرم ہیں جو جان سکے وہ جانے اور جو دیکھ سکتا ہو وہ دیکھ سکے ،

“मेरे मालिक और हाँथ पकड़ने वाले की  आला हिम्मती, बुलन्द हौंसलग़ी और फ़ितरी शफ़क़त [स्वाभाविक प्रेम] लगातार हर हालत में इस तरहँ मसरूफ़ और मुतवज्जह [आकर्षित] रही है कि बिला लिहाज़ फ़िरक़ा और मज़हब फ़ैज़ाने इलाही की वारिश [अमृत की वर्षा] मुतनफ़्फ़िस पर फ़रमाते रहे। उनकी हर अन्दर आने वाली साँस लोगों के दिलों की स्याही [कालिमा] को सूंत कर बाहर फेंक देने वाली थी और हर बाहर जाने वाली साँस, अमृत की धार को दिल, दिमाग़ और हर रग़ों-पट्ठों में भर देने वाली, वह जिस्म में रह कर अपना काम कर गए और अब आज़ाद हो कर उसी काम में सरगर्म हैं; जो जान सके वह जाने और जो देख सकता वह  देखे।“


[My Lord and the holder of my hand had such great courage and enthusiasm that without having any regard for the cast or religion he kept on continuously showering his grace and kindness on all living beings and in all conditions. Each breath he inhaled washed and threw away the darkness in the hearts of people and every breath he exhaled filled their minds and bodies with the nectar of divine grace. He did his job while in the body; now, after leaving the body, he is still engaged in the same work. One who can know or see it may like to know it or see it.]

سبسے پہلے ہدایت کی روشنی مجھ پر میری پرم بھکت ماتا کی پوٹر گود میں دہلی گیے . اس پرکاش [نور] کی حرارت نے مجھے سات ورش تک پالا پوسا .

सत्य प्रकाश की प्रथम किरण मुझ पर मेरी परमभक्ता माँ की पवित्र गोद में डाली गयी तथा इस दिव्य प्रकाश की ऊष्मा में मुझे सात वर्ष तक पालित-पोषित होने का सौभाग्य मिला।

[“… … …. The first gleam of enlightenment was bestowed on me in the lap of my intensely devoted mother and I was fortunate to be bloomed in the warmth of this Divine light [in the form of my mother] for seven years.”]

ے پرم دیالو ! آپ کے راہم نے مجھکو بہت دن تک بحیدایات نہیں چھوڑا . بلکی امر کے انیسویں سال کے ایک مبارک دن پر میرے سروسو کو ہمیشہ کے لئے ایک مجسسم [مرتیمان] راہم ، ہدے طریقت [پنتھ دکھلانے والے] اور شمم-ا-معرفت و حقیقت [گیان اور وگیان کے دیپک] کے سپرد کر دیا . اس سچھے راستہ بتلانے والے نے پہلے ہی دن میرے کان میں فونک دیا کی تیری ہستی اصلیت کی طرف پہلے سے ہی میل ہے . اس لئے تو اپنے آپ کو یعنی اصل ککو اصل کرکے دکھلا

हे परम दयालु ! आपकी असीम अनुकम्पा ने मुझे अधिक समय तक अपनी दिव्यधारा के प्रवाह से विलग नहीं रक्खा और अन्ततः, मेरी आयु के उन्नीसवें वर्ष के  एक पावन दिवस को दया की साक्षात मूर्ति, सत्यपथ के प्रदर्शक और ज्ञान-विज्ञान के दिव्य दीप को मेरे पथ-प्रदर्शक के रूप में भेज दिया एवं उन्हें मेरा सर्वस्व समर्पित करा दिया। इस सच्चे पथ-प्रदर्शक ने पहले ही दिन मेरे कान में यह मन्त्र फूँक दिया - 'तेरा सत्य रूप प्रारम्भ से ही सुपथ पर अग्रसरित है अतः तू अपने आप को, सआश्रय, सतपुरुष का प्रतिरूप हो कर सत्य को सत्य कर के दिखला।"

[“ … … … .O’ the Merciful! Your boundless Compassion did not keep me away from its current and eventually, on an auspicious day of my nineteenth year, you sent me and ultimately apportioned me the epitome of mercy and the light of knowledge to guide and lead me to the path of Truth and made me surrender my being to him. He, the true guide, on the very first day uttered in my ears that “your true self from the very first day is bent towards the Truth; so become an epitome of the ’Satpurush’ and prove the ‘Truth’ to be the truth. Use the reflective action as the divine path to reach the ‘Dhruva Pada’ [the pole state]. Use the ‘Maya’ [illusion] as a tool in performing your role but take the shelter only of the Truth.”]

“ ... ... …  मेरे पथप्रदर्शक ने ऐसा संकेत दे कर मुझे, मात्र मेरे ऊपर ही नहीं छोड़ दिया किन्तु स्वयं छाया की भाँति हर समय साथ रह कर सोलह वर्ष तक अपनी विशेष आन्तरिक वाह्य कृपा से मेरी देख-भाल की।"

میرے راہنما نے ایسا اشارہ دے کر مجھ کو محاذ میرے اپر ہی نہیں چھوڈ دیا ، بلکی خود سیا کی ترہں ہر وقت ساتھ رہ کر اپنی خاص تواججوہ ظاہری اور باطنی [اندرونی] سے میری نگہداشت فرمایے .

  my own but for sixteen years like an eidolon he always remained with me and with great kindness took both of my spiritual and worldly care.]  

 

Chaudhry Har Bukhsh Rai Adhauliya, the worthy father of 

Laalaa JI, migrated to Farrukhabad from Qusba Bhogaon of 

Mainpuri district of Uttar Pradesh. Here, he joined his 

assignment as Tax Superintendent and began to live with his 

family. Unfortunate, he had no son at the time and had 

adopted his nephew [his younger brother, Chaudhary Ulfat Rai's

son, Ram Swarup].  Though his estate had been subjected to 

considerable damage as a result of the post-mutiny# disturbances and his property had been plundered, he had enough assets to live by in the manner of an old and rich aristocrat. But the transitional period could not suit him and his status continued to deteriorate. Yet, there were servants and maidservants, in the appropriately respectable house allotted by the district administration of the British Regime, equipped with necessary paraphernalia, conveyances, etc. This house was situated in a lane splitting Mohalla ‘Nitaganja’ by the side of a joint campus of a Mosque and Islamic school was known as ‘Madrasa Mufti Sahib’ in the township of Farrukhabad.

 Laalaa JI was born here in this house of this splendid material

The Indian Rebellion of 1857 was a major uprising in India in 1857–58 against the rule of the British East India Company, which functioned as a sovereign power on behalf of the British Crown. The rebellion began on 10 May 1857 in the form of a mutiny of sepoys of the Company's army in the garrison town of Meerut, 40 mi [64 km] northeast of Delhi. It then erupted into other mutinies and civilian rebellions chiefly in the upper Gangetic plains and central India, though incidents of revolt also occurred farther north and east. The rebellion posed a considerable threat to British power in that region and was contained only with the rebels' defeat in Gwalior on 20 June 1858. On 01st November 1858, the British granted amnesty to all rebels not involved in murder, though they did not declare the hostilities to have formally ended until 8 July 1859. Its name is contested, and it is variously described as the Sepoy Mutiny, the Indian Mutiny, the Great Rebellion, the Revolt of 1857, the Indian Insurrection, and the First War of Independence.

Laalaa Ji & Daadee Shrimati Brij Rani

The adolescent Ram Chandra [Laalaa Ji] was married to a noble girl of a respectable family, named ‘Brij Rani’. There was sufficient property left, but Laalaa JI could not live like a rich man as God had willed that he should become a saint and show the real path to suffering humanity. His father expired sometime after his marriage. The Raja of Mainpuri had brought an action against his ancestral property which was lost by Laalaa JI, and the entire property was sold out. Laalaa JI had to abandon his home [officially allotted to his father] for a much smaller house, nearby in the same locality. His elder brother, Ram Swarup, who had been adopted by his father, also had expired by that time. These tragic occurrences would have upset the bravest of the brave, but Laalaa JI faced them like a stalwart, caring nothing for the losses and trying to adjust himself to the new conditions.

At this juncture, on one side the poverty-stricken flood-ride and on the other side a new bend of family growth, the Providence took him to the state of starvation. One year later the death of his first son Harish Chandra, Laalaa Ji was blessed with a female-child Pushpa Rani. Till then he was unemployed, had no other source of income, and had no subsistence to feed the family. All such ‘ebbs and flows’ made him tired. He was completely overtaken by misfortune after misfortune. The newly-born infant got sick and poverty-stricken Laalaa Ji could not afford any medicine for her. Another day her condition became critical and it seemed that she would not survive anymore. But, the couple did not lose patience. The next day, in the gloaming morning some unknown agency propelled him to move out for the solution. He could not turn to in-observance this kindling.

Although the apparent cause of his exit from home was the search for some physician to treat the illness of his daughter in fact this was the foreordained plane of the ‘Providence’ and in accordance with which, all of a sudden, an energetic personality appeared before Laalaa Ji at a visual distance, to whom he recognised later as a venerable old man living in the neighboring school’s premises. In the course of time, he underwent that this was his first encounter with his ‘Hazrat Qibla’ [Spiritual Master]. A wonderful scene of [his] automation when Laalaa Ji bowed his head in his reverence. The venerable old man interrogated - “where are you going so hastily?” Laalaa Ji replied - “my daughter is seriously ill and I am looking for a physician.” The venerable old man told Laalaa Ji -  

“In the beginning, I had occasion to learn the system of ’Tibb’ medical science [ طب یونانی Tibb yūnānī]. We should move and let me see if I could understand the disease to enable me to give medicine. And this is how the venerable old man was taken with him by Laalaa Ji to his home. He examined my daughter’s running of the pulse and said – “don’t worry, she will become cure very soon.” This all was nothing but a happenstance because everything worked by some remote control and seemingly Laalaa Ji was a ‘dreamer’. unknowingly, he was getting perceptually back to the story of ‘Ramcharitmanas’ –  "सेवक सदन स्वामि आगमनू"@

@ सेवक सदन स्वामि आगमनू। मंगल मूल अमंगल दमनू।।
तदपि उचित जनु बोलि सप्रीती।  पठइअ काज नाथ असि नीती।
प्रभुता तजि प्रभु कीन्ह सनेहू। भयउ पुनीत आजु यहु गेहू।
आयसु होइ सो करौं गोसाईं। सेवकु लहइ स्वामि सेवकाई।


“Sevak sedan swami aagamanu ; mangal mool amangal damanoo.
Tadapi uchit janu boli sapreetee ; pathaia kaaj naath asi neetee.
Prabhuta taji prabhu keenh sanehu ; bhayu puneet aaju yahu gehoo.
Aayasu how so karoun gosaayeen; sevaku lahai swaami sevakaayee.”

 
- [Although the arrival of the Lord to the servant’s house is the root of good luck and the destroyer of bad luck, O Nath! it has appropriate that lovingly send the slave for work, such is the policy. But today this house has become holy because of the love that the Lord has shown [his coming here] by giving up the sovereignty. O, Lord! Now I will do whatever is ordered. The servant's benevolence lies in the service of the   Master.]

He took out some medicine and said, "Dissolve it in mother's milk and feed her.” After five minutes he inquired - "How is she now?” Laalaa Ji answered, “she is fine now." Just slowly, the condition of the daughter started getting better in front of him. By then it was time for the meal. But the truth was that no food was cooked there for the last several days, it was such a state of wretchedness. But, in spite of it he had a good reputation in the market and he could get the requisites on credit. So he started going to make some arrangements. He [the venerable old man] immediately stopped him and said, there is no need to bring anything from the market, bring whatever you can get in the house." He [Laalaa Ji] came in and said [to his wife] "He does not let me bring anything from the market and is repeatedly saying that what so ever available in the home, is enough, bring it. "So look, take out a roasted gram or anything else that is worth eating." Laalaa ji negotiated with his wife. The answer was "If there was something, why would there have been skipping?" There was a great compulsion.

By then the ‘venerable old man’ had guessed correctly the factual situation, and said, “on that day when my daughter [Laalaa Ji's wife, Brij Rani] had made bread, a cake of flour that was burnt on one side would still be lying there. Bring the same and take some pickle with it." When he went inside, he saw that there was indeed a cake of burnt bread lying on one side of the hearth. Laalaa Ji picked it up and presented it with a piece of pickle to the angel-like elder. He got up after eating. In the meantime, he offered him the 'fee' while walking by borrowing a rupee from somewhere. The angel-like person said "Son! Look, it's not needed, because it's not my profession." While walking, he wanted him to sit on 'ace' [one horse vehicle]. He refused and said - "I go for a walk for two-and-a-half miles every day, today I came out here only." Thus he went back home on foot.
